The sets

IPMAT Indore has set one or two RC passages a year, each with six questions: 12 sets and 72 questions from 2019 to 2025. All are solved in the IPMAT PYQ vault.

What the passages are about

  • 2019: cooperation on a desert island (a classic essay on honesty) and the science of gender differences in the brain.
  • 2020: the naturalist John Muir and his love of the wild.
  • 2021: logic, rhetoric and how education trains us to argue.
  • 2022: the science of fruit ripening, and Edward Jenner and the first vaccine.
  • 2023: what fitness really means, and Apple's manufacturing move into India.
  • 2024: air pollution in Indian cities, and anxiety and how it is treated.
  • 2025: social media content moderation, and Baudrillard on consumption and happiness.

The pattern

IPMAT mixes classic essays, science explainers and recent current-affairs writing. Since 2023 the current-affairs share has grown: Apple in India, Delhi air quality, Meta's moderation policy. Questions are mostly main idea, detail, inference and the meaning of a phrase.

What to practise

  • Read one science or society explainer daily from a quality newspaper or magazine.
  • Practise six questions in about six minutes per passage: the verbal section gives under a minute per question.
  • Do every set in the IPMAT PYQ vault under time, then read the explanations for each option.
