IPMAT Indore Verbal Ability Strategy: 45 Questions in 40 Minutes
Verbal Ability is the biggest section in IPMAT Indore and the most time-pressed. Here is how to handle it.
On this page
The section
- IPMAT Indore has 90 questions in 120 minutes across three timed sections of 40 minutes each.
- Verbal Ability is the largest: 45 MCQs in 40 minutes.
- +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one.
- Reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, sentence completion, fill in the blanks and para-jumbles all appear.
The time plan
Under a minute per question means you cannot afford to get stuck. Do vocabulary and grammar questions first and fast (about 30 seconds each), then spend the saved time on RC, which needs about six minutes per six-question set.
RC: read once, answer from structure
IPMAT passages are shorter and more direct than CAT's. Read once at a steady pace, note the main point, and answer from what the passage says, not what you know. Real sets are in the IPMAT PYQ vault.
Vocabulary: learn words in context
Word lists are slow to stick. Read daily and note unfamiliar words with the sentence they came from. Every GRADFLIX essay has a glossary of key words in context, which is a quick way to build this habit.
Negative marking
At −1 per wrong answer, a blind guess on a four-option question loses marks on average. Answer when you can eliminate at least two options.
