IPMAT RC: How to Attempt a Six-Question Set in Six Minutes
IPMAT gives you under a minute per question. Here is a method that keeps RC accurate at that pace.
The constraint
IPMAT Indore's Verbal section has 45 questions in 40 minutes. A six-question RC set should take about six minutes, reading included.
The method
- Two minutes to read. Steady pace, no rereading. Note the main point in one line.
- Answer main-idea and tone questions first. Your one-line summary answers them.
- Then detail questions. Go back to the exact paragraph; do not answer from memory.
- Then inference. Pick the option that must be true from the passage, not the one that sounds wise.
- Skip and return if a question takes more than a minute.
Eliminating options
Wrong options in IPMAT are usually too extreme, outside the passage, or true but not what was asked. Strike those first; you will often be left with one.
Practise
Time yourself on every set in the IPMAT PYQ vault, then read the explanation for every option, including the ones you got right.
Frequently asked questions
How long should an IPMAT RC set take?
