XAT Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning is one of the most demanding verbal sections among MBA entrance exams. Understanding the section structure accurately is the first step in preparing for it effectively.
XAT 2026 is a 180-minute exam divided into two parts. Part 1 covers three sections together — Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning, Decision Making, and Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation — with a combined time of 170 minutes and no sectional time limit. Part 2 is the General Knowledge section with 10 minutes. The total paper has approximately 95 MCQ questions. The VARC section typically has around 26 questions.
Each correct answer carries 1 mark. Each wrong answer carries a penalty of 0.25 marks. Importantly, XAT also penalises leaving more than 8 consecutive questions unattempted, which makes question selection strategy critical. The GK section carries no negative marking and does not contribute to the percentile used for shortlisting.
