The last 29 days of CAT VARC
A month is enough to move your VARC score, if you stop practising everything and fix only what costs you marks. This is the plan, day by day, to CAT on 29 November.
By Abhishek Leela Pandey, 99.93 percentile in CAT.
The four phases
Diagnose
Take a baseline VARC mock, then two timed RC passages a day (one CAT PYQ, one essay) plus a verbal ability set. Log every mistake by question type, genre and trap. On Day 7, find your two weakest question types and your weakest genre.
Fix
Work only on what the log shows: one essay a day from your weakest genre’s reading path, one timed CAT PYQ passage, and a rotating verbal ability set. A sectional mock on Days 10, 14 and 18, analysed the same day.
Exam mode
A 40-minute sectional mock every other day at your CAT slot time, practising your passage order and when to skip. On the days in between, a one-hour mock analysis and two passages from your weak genre.
Taper
One easy passage a day to stay warm, a full re-read of your mistake log, no new mocks, and proper sleep before 29 November.
Three rules for the whole month
- Time every passage, about 8 minutes for a set of four questions.
- Keep a mistake log: question type, genre, the trap. In the last week you revise the log, not new material.
- Read one full essay every day, even on mock days, so your reading stamina holds.
Everything the plan uses is on GRADFLIX: CAT RC PYQs, reading paths, verbal ability practice and VARC sectional mocks. The printable PDF has every day laid out, with checkboxes and a cheat sheet.
