XAT 2027: A Week-by-Week VARC Plan for the Last Weeks

The last weeks before XAT are about rehearsal, not new material. A plan that keeps reading daily and simulates the real clock.

The short answer: use a daily core of reading, one RC set and a few reasoning questions, then move from range to full simulations to sharpening. Do the final simulation about three days before the exam.

XAT 2027 is scheduled for 3 January 2027 according to the official XAT website, so count your weeks back from that date. Map the phases below onto the time you have. If you have fewer than six weeks, compress the first phase.

The daily core: 60 to 90 minutes

Every day, read one long, idea-driven essay and write the author's argument in two sentences. Then do one RC set and a few critical reasoning or grammar questions. This keeps comprehension warm without tiring you before the full simulations.

Phase 1: build range (weeks 1 and 2)

Read across genres, including literary and reflective essays, which XAT leans towards more than CAT. Review every wrong answer and label the reason: misread passage, trap option, or time. Keep a short list of your most frequent mistake type.

Phase 2: simulate the clock (weeks 3 and 4)

Take full Part 1 simulations on one shared 170-minute clock, including Decision Making and QA and DI, at least twice a week if you can. Practise a fixed order and a rule for abandoning a stuck question. Reviewing a simulation takes as long as taking it, so protect that time.

Phase 3: sharpen (last 10 days)

Stop learning new topics. Re-solve the questions you got wrong, reread your mistake list, and keep one reading set a day. Do the final simulation about three days before the exam, not the day before.

Exam week

Sleep on schedule, reach the centre early, and use the first minutes to decide your order. Remember the negative marking: guess only when you can remove at least one option. For the pattern details see our XAT 2027 pattern guide, and keep reading daily on GRADFLIX XAT.

A Sample Day in the Daily Core

Spend about 25 minutes reading one long essay and writing its argument in two sentences. Spend about 25 minutes on one RC set, timed loosely. Spend the remaining time on a few critical reasoning or grammar questions, and write one line on each wrong answer. That is the whole routine; consistency beats intensity.

How to Review a Simulation

After each full simulation, sort mistakes into three bins: misread the passage, fell for a trap option, ran out of time. Write the count in each bin. The biggest bin is the focus of the next week. If time is the biggest bin, the issue is your order and abandonment rule, not your reading.

Common Mistakes

  • Taking many mocks without reviewing them.
  • Learning new topics in the final days.
  • Ignoring the penalty for unattempted questions while planning your attempts.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours a day should I study for XAT VARC in the last weeks?

About 60 to 90 minutes a day of focused VARC practice, plus full simulations on separate days, is a sustainable plan for most aspirants.

How many full XAT mocks should I take?

Aim for a few full 170-minute Part 1 simulations, with careful analysis of each, rather than many mocks you do not review.

Should I read literary essays for XAT?

Yes. XAT passages lean more literary and reflective than CAT, so include such essays in your daily reading.

What should I do in the last three days before XAT?

Stop new topics, reread your mistake list, keep one light reading set a day and rest. Avoid a final full simulation the day before.

How do I review a full XAT simulation?

Sort errors into misread passage, trap option and time. Work on the biggest bin first, and re-solve the questions you missed a few days later.
